FAMILY COVENANT

Want to share a highlight from my book I'm currently writing let me know what you think

FAMILY COVENANT

Initiated by God, the Family Covenant is one of the greatest and most precious gifts a family can receive that will enrich everyone that makes up each member of the family unit.  The covenant grows in benefits and expands in the quality of rewards as each member experiences God’s goodness and comes to understand their own relationship with God. Enriched with the power of God’s love, spiritual benefits, each member’s destiny, and purpose is revealed.

Covenant can best be defined as SOMETHING or SOMEONE you can TRUST, RELY ON, ACCEPT, AFFIRM, AGREEMENT, be REST ASSURED or take as GOSPEL TRUTH!
In the book of 2 Kings, I noticed a pattern of broken covenants among the royal families. These fractured covenants became the legacy left by the kings of Israel. For example, the tribe of Judah’s disobedience to God, continued from one royal generation to the next, each generation following the same pattern of disobedience of their forefathers.  Remember, we too, are of royal descent. Not only do we serve a King, but our king is also our heavenly Father, and so, we are a royal generation as are our children. Just as we see in 2 Kings, our disobedience can result in broken or fragmented covenants resulting in generational curses of disobedience passing down our family line.

The rulers in 2 Kings influenced not only their inner circle of the family but their entire kingdom as well. Whatever they deemed as law would determine the strength and health of their kingdom. Covenant is built on key components: Commitment: your willingness to devote your time; Promise: to make a pledge with the intent to fulfill it to the best of your ability. When commitment and promise come together under the umbrella of a solemn agreement, a covenant, a spiritual contract, binding each party to the other and to God, is formed.

Disobedience in our Christian walk can forfeit the benefits and rewards provided by the covenant. The spiritual inheritance and legacy we leave to our children are affected. When the hedge of protection is lifted from our Family Covenant, we become vulnerable to attacks of the devil. Our destiny and calling, including those of each member of the family, may not be realized and experienced as originally intended by God.
The Family Covenant is designed by God to strengthen every family member allowing them to grow and mature in faith resulting in God’s favor, blessings, and protection, along with many more Kingdom benefits provided to us through our salvation in Christ Jesus.

In 2Peter 1:3 we find God’s design for our lives and the rewards made available to us when we walk in obedience to Him.
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these, he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

As you can see there is a pattern, a spiritual structure, in this verse first. God has equipped us in every way to live life in His fullness, under His glory and goodness, on the premise that we whole heartily pursue a personal knowledge of Him. Next, we see through this first step, we are led to His precious promises which become benefits to us and our family. We are then positioned to participate in His divine nature which is all of who He is as God. This brings a covering and hedge of protection against the corruption of sin and the influences of the world. A sensitivity to the movement of His Holy Spirit that dwells within us, brings the conviction of righteousness through the power of His Spirit, protecting us from the road of destruction not only for ourselves but for the entire family as a whole.

This spiritual structure is important so that our children are able to experience and have a spiritual reference that will serve them well later in life. They will come to understand the importance of serving Christ and loving God, this will perpetuate a Godly heritage passing from them to future generations as they enjoy the benefits of the Family Covenant designed by God.
